Domain Names

The first step for an internet presence is to register your own unique domain name, so as to create a permanent identity on the internet, which expresses the name of your company, the object or some special characteristic (trademark, brand, distinctive title, etc.).

Since 16/04/2004, e-milles creations has been providing internet users with Domain Name Registration services, on the occasion of the change in the model of providing Domain Name Registration, Renewal, Deletion and Transfer services, with approval number 8376-16/04/04 by the National Telecommunications and Post Commission. It currently holds the license of the National Telecommunications and Postal Commission with registration number 91-040.

For the record, from 1989 to 1998 the management of domain names was carried out by the Institute of Informatics (IIT) of the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH), with the granting of this competence by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) organization.

The National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) , in accordance with Law L.3431/2006 and its Decisions No. (351/76 of 20/05/2005) and (353/185/17-8-2005), is responsible for the assignment of Domain Names [.gr].

The Institute of Informatics of the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH-IP) and in particular the Registry Department Internet Names with the .gr suffix (GR-Hostmaster), following an open competition conducted by EETT, undertook the maintenance and operation of the .gr Name Registry. For the maintenance of the registry, FORTH-IP, utilizing its experience in the management of the Registry (.gr was registered and started operating by FORTH-IP in 1989), created a new infrastructure, which implements the Registry - Registrar - User structure for Name registrations. For this implementation, a widely used protocol in registry applications was chosen, called the Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP). EPP has the approval of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and is an open protocol. The use of this protocol allows the interconnection of registrars with the Registry, both through applications that the Registry has available for use, and with applications that registrars will develop to better serve users.

During the development of the Registry's applications, particular importance was given to making it possible to register Domain Names [.gr] in Greek characters from the start of the Registry. Thus, since 04/07/2005 (07.00 UTC) the registration of Names such as [name.gr] has been possible for users.

Currently, Government Gazette AP-1110-006 is in force. The registration of Names in the Registry - Registrars - Users system is carried out only through registrars. The maximum fee limit is determined by EETT.
